Mac has been in the market for quiet a long time. And it has been equally popular too. The fact that Mac OS or Macintosh in general holds importance is that truckloads of people use it as their first preference today. With such huge workload on the system it is bound to produce a failure or crash by default. With this arises the need of making a back-up of important data and information. Since you have personalized your mac, be sure to back it up. Lets start.

But have you regularly been using manual back up processes to secure your data? It is though very easy to use automated processes to back up your important data on Mac. If you are worried about money and applications that may harm your Mac, rest assured. It is as safe as the pillow on your bed!

You can use a variety of applications, Rsync being the best. Using this magic back up tool, you can back up all your data and information collections. It works best on all Unix OS, including Mac.

Let’s take it to stride that you have an USB drive in place, labeled backup. You want to backup your documents folder:

Open TextEdit.

Then from the Format menu, click on “Make Plain Text”. Copy and paste the following command on the window:

rsync -aE –delete ~ “/Documents/backup[or the name of your USB drive]

This command will start a program to backup your documents and data copying them into the USB drive. Here is your start to the backup process. Now save the file in a format that helps you to start the backup application on a double click. Save it with the file name backup.command. Mind the fact that it should not get saved as a .txt file. Now save it in the Documents folder or the Applications folder. The .command extension will help you run the file in the Terminal Application.

To make this basic script executable, we have to launch the Terminal application. It’s saved in the Utilities section of Applications. Now type the following command in the provided space:

chmod u+x ~/Documents/backup.command

The chmod changes permissions of files and directories in your Mac. The u+x help make backup data.
Now finally, you have an easy way out of the lengthy and time-consuming processes to backup your data in Mac. This is not only a great way of saving your data, but also a sure-fire way to protect your data from permanent loss.
You can also use the RsyncX, a graphic version of Rsync. But since it is yet receiving mixed reviews, it is better to stick to the option that suits your Mac the best.
Backup your data in Mac is made simple now. So what are you waiting for? Go ahead and do it!

Your new Mac is something that is an asset to you. And personalizing it means a great deal to you. After all, you would want your Mac to have a personality of its own. Or rather it would reflect your persona through and through. But the only obstacle in the course is knowing the process of how to personalize your Mac itself! So now that your peripherals are installed.

Use System Preferences to the Hilt

If you have been a Mac user, you will know that control panels and system extensions or their miscellaneous combinations were done by most system customizations. But under Mac OS X, these are controlled by the System Preferences applications. Using it to modify and define system settings is a better option than the earlier one. Therefore, maximize the utilities given in these panels and customize your Mac.

Homemade Launcher

Use the Users folder in your hard drive and create a new folder by pressing Command-Shift-N. Name it for example, Toolbox folder. Add other applications such as subfolders, games, utilities and graphics. Drag and drop any application into the subfolders of the Toolbox folder you have created. Now drag and drop the Toolbox folder to the Dock.

This will create a folder on the Dock that will allow access to different applications through different subfolders.

Save Your Screen

The Mac OS X has stable screen savers than its predecessors. Using the Screen Effects Preference Pane, you may create or generate already existing pictures and videos as screensavers. File formats such as JPEG, JPG TIFF work fine, but GIF often gives low image resolution and bad performances as screensavers. The Activation and Hot Corners tabs are made to allow additional changes in settings.

Desktop Pictures

The ability of the new Mac OS X to allow beautiful desktop pictures as your desktop background is an added rational application. The setup to apply a desktop picture is the same as the screensaver setup. You can also use the iPhoto import command to import photos and pictures you would like to adorn your desktop with. This feature is a new with the new Mac and is very popular with the digital camera mobiles being a rage in today’s age!

The New Mac Noise

Mac has brought up a new series of start-up and alert sounds, along with different tunes and themes to open up a plethora of wonderful audio harmony. Fun sounds such as sounds of explosions, flutes, baby talking etc are not only unique but also give your Mac a finish that matches its style! Bring them up from the Classic Startup Sound programs. While using alert sounds, use shorter versions. This is because longer sounds create as much annoyance as wastage of time.

With this ammunition pack, touch up your Mac with the state-of-the-art magnificence of personalization!

You already know how to customize your desktop, now let install peripherals.Peripherals such as monitors, keyboards and printers are essential for a system to function properly. They assist the user in developing, executing and coordinating different programs and applications and are an integral part of the CPU or the computer’s brain. Peripherals to Mac vary from the age old keyboard to the modern graphics card and Video cards. Mac generally is a smooth and easy-functioning User-Guided Interface based Operating System. And hence the accessorizing and installation of peripherals in the Mac systems are fairly easy and convincingly simple.

We will start by providing basic instructions to guide a novice user on the installation procedures of different peripherals to the Mac Devices in general. This will provide a fair idea of how installation and execution of these packages associated with peripherals work. The following should be read and followed carefully to allow a distinct and superior quality functioning of peripheral devices installed to the Mac system.

Keyboard and Mouse

These are two of the most basic yet two of the most important and vital devices to be installed into the Mac System. The keyboard comes with a male jack that may be plugged into a female jack to set it up for installation. Then use the installation package provided or the Mac system guide to set up and install the keyboard as per instructions. Same procedure goes with the mouse too. As these are the basic peripheral devices, their proper installation will be a resultant outcome for other installation packages for higher peripherals in the Mac system hierarchy.

Printer

The printer is a device that allows hard copies to be taken out of documents that are still in the software application package form. To install these to the Mac system, you have to abide by caution as well as careful inspection. First of all the external power sources should be plugged in to make sure the printer is functional as far as power is concerned. Now, jack in the printer in the provided socket in the CPU of the Mac system and wait for the Mac system guide to provide you with the installation guidelines. Otherwise, if you have an external source of installation package, you may install it from there too.

Monitor

The monitor is the video display unit that is the most important part of the Mac computer system. Installing it requires the same stages of preparation and installation guidelines are the same as for the printer. Being the main source for video display, monitors are very important peripheral devices for the functioning of the Mac System.
The other peripheral and external devices are also an important factor in the smooth functioning of the whole system, and hence should be installed with much caution and adhering to the proper guidelines is the best option.
